I'm sure you would have answers to this question but here are my two cents.The best college essay I ever read is probably from one of my students who asked the class, 'What do you think of that?' in class. She wanted to know what I thought about a story that was told in the class. I knew the student and even helped her with her assignment.As a reader, I love a good challenge like this. And not just any old story but one that is involved with learning and life. It's like I have to learn a new skill or even create something out of something. I loved that.Next, how do you decide which stories to read and how do you get the right people to tell them? This is where the students are so important, because you can't leave out a person, and you will be a teacher yourself someday.What was the best college essay I ever read? I wish I had the answer to that question. It probably was a story from a stud ent that didn't seem to know how to express herself in a way that made a difference to her, but she wanted to put something on paper.Did the reader know how to express himself or herself? Or did she simply sit there and watch as the writer turned an essay around in her mind. Sometimes I wondered if the reader wrote her own words or if the writer turned her words into words and wrote them down and hoped for the best. It was really a hard way to do it.Anyway, we all learned the entire story in class because the student had a passion for telling it and she didn't know how to begin it. But we all knew when she finished, and she was asked to write a summary of the story and she did, which made a difference to her, and this was the best college essay I ever read.So, if you are reading this then you probably want to find out which of the stories was the best college essay.
